Sahara: A Gangster trend, let’s go inside

Who’s a gangster?

A gangster is simply a member of a gang. Gangs are considered to be part of organized crime or cartel activities.

Gangs provide a level of organization and resources that, sometimes breaking into pieces, support much larger criminal operations.

Meanwhile, Gangsters are the theme of many novels, films, television series, and video games.

Let’s go inside

‘Pray the dogs never die’ is a popular expression of mobsters (another name for gangsters).

Usually, members of a gang have a sense of common identity and belonging and this is typically reinforced through shared activities and through visual identifications not exclusive to tattoos or clothing.

Most gangs are well structured organizations that coordinates various activities with recent sights in the international trade; drugs and trafficking of all sorts.

Media depictions as opposed to reality, often identifies a gangster as typically articulate, although at times lonely and depressed, with worldly wisdom and defiance of social norms alongside a firm appeal.

Originally, many mobsters are self-confident young men chastened to violence.

A gangster is a street inclined individual consisting of human and social intelligence, as even the United States’ FBI called their conflict with mobsters a ‘war’.

Imagine or picture renowned law enforcement outgunned and ill-prepared at a point in history, starting a criminal wave across the Americas. In 1926, more than 12,000 murders were taking place every year across the United States of America.

However, with the industrial revolution and technological advances, investigations into heinous crimes began to yield positive outcomes.

With major law enforcement agencies taking the lead, there were many reforms and improvements in policing as examinations and analysis became fully operational.

What’s the trend about ?

Sometime in July, 2023 it was reported that Sweden was in the grip of a rise in gang violence and shootings.

Statistics confirmed that since 2013 the number of fatal shootings in the country has more than doubled, as drug and gun crimes steadily increased.

According to data from United Nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC), Sweden now has one of the highest gun death rates per capita of any European country.

However, most violent activities are linked to poverty, social inequalities and traumatic events.

Most gangsters have been shaped by socioeconomic circumstances over a long period of time. Unemployment is also a perturbing phenomenon.

Meanwhile, sadly, young people are increasingly being recruited by gangs as seen in 2012, where 15- to 20-year-olds made up 16.9% of all suspects for gang crimes.

“Now it seems that the trend is youth crime”.
