Helicopter carrying the President of Iran has crashed

A helicopter carrying the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi has crashed in an accident as rescuers struggle to reach the scene due to heavy fog.

The aircraft had a “rough landing” near Jolfa, the Iranian city on the border of Azerbaijan.

The helicopter is reported to have been carrying Raisi and Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian following a visit with the Azerbaijani president to discuss an infrastructure project.

“Given the complexities of the region, connection has been difficult, and we are hoping that the rescue teams reach the helicopter and can give us more information,” Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s interior minister stated.

Iran’s media is yet to report on casualties or confirm the condition of the president.
