Sources have confirmed that a mass termination of appointments continues at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as seven directors, and over 90 senior management staff were relieved of their jobs on Friday.
This is amongst the series of sacks at the CBN since Yemi Cardoso became governor.
Information implies that a whole lot of deputy directors were affected, including directors in charge of Statistics department, trade and exchange department, policy regulatory department, Information Technology department.
According to a reliable report, up to 200 people may have been sacked with more waiting to be relieved of their duties.
The CBN had also relocated more than 1,000 staff to its Lagos office, stressing on the need to maintain the bank’s structure and to ensure a more even geographical spread of talent.
Although this move has been widely criticized, the relevant authorities have defended this move, insisting that it was in compliance with regulations.
“This is to notify all staff members at the CBN Head Office that we have initiated a decongestion action plan designed to optimise the operational environment of the Bank.” A memo issued to redeployed staff read.
