A Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the Kano State government’s actions to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law currently in place.
This decision overturns steps that have been taken by the state assembly and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which led to the removal of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano and the dissolution of four newly created emirates.
Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman had stated that the Kano governor is aware of the interim order granted by the court but chose to ignore it and went ahead with implemention of the law.
The court has ordered that the interim order asking parties to maintain status quo ante remains.
The court however refused to declare the said law null and void, and then transfered the case to Justice Simon Amobeda for continuation.
