The Ukrainian government has declared Tuesday 9 July a day of national mourning as a result of one of the deadliest air strikes of the war against Russia.
Russia blasted the main children’s hospital in Kyiv with a missile in broad daylight on Monday, raining missiles down on other cities in Ukraine.
This unfortunate incident resulted to the death of at least 41 civilians in the deadliest wave of air strikes for months.
Parents and guardians walked across the street, sobbing after the devastating aerial attack as hundreds of residents could only daze and scamper away.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the death toll was at 37 with more than 170 injured.
“The Russian terrorists must answer for this. Being concerned does not stop terror. Condolences are not a weapon.” He wrote via his Telegram.
The President in his address in Warsaw for a NATO summit, said that Ukraine needed a defense upgrade.
“We will retaliate against these people, we will deliver a powerful response from our side to Russia, for sure. The question to our partners is: can they respond?” Zelenskiy said.
Reacting to the situation, the White House released a statement with US President Biden saying that the USA and its NATO allies would be considering new measures to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
However, the Russian authorities have responded, denying targeting civilians and civilian buildings, insisting that its forces launched strikes on the Ukraine defense industry.
