Former and 45th President of the US, Donald Trump was evacuated off stage by Secret Service agents after a series of loud gunshots were heard at the start of a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Visuals showed Trump with blood on his right ear as he was surrounded by security agents.
However, the secret service confirmed that the former president was safe and sound.
“This is an active crime scene”. They told reporters.
The Secret Service also confirmed that its personnel killed the suspected attacker, with one spectator was killed and two others critically injured in the shooting.
What next ?
This recent attack intensifies the upcoming presidential election, as this must lead to review of Trump’s security, and profoundly, a former Secret Service agent who served on the presidential detail, Joseph LaSorsa said he will likely be provided with a level of protection more akin to a sitting president.
“There will be an intensive review of the incident and there’s going to be a massive realignment.
“This cannot happen”. LaSorsa said.
History reveals to us that in 2005 Presidential candidate George W Bush faced assassination attempts but survived.
Meanwhile, uproar from the Republican Party has begun as vice presidential hopeful Senator JD Vance blamed the “rhetoric” of the Biden campaign for the “attempted assassination” of Trump.
American businessman and former presidential aspirant, Vivek Ramaswamy posited that, “Biden’s inevitable ritual condemnation of political violence today… will be insufficient and irrelevant.
“No amount of verbiage today changes the toxic national climate that led to this tragedy.”
Also, Congresswoman and vocal Trump ally, Marjorie Taylor Greene accused the Democrats for the disastrous incident.
“They’ve wanted Trump gone for years and they’re prepared to do anything to make that happen,” she said.
Although, President Biden and other Democrats have condemned the attack, Republican Congressman Mike Collins stated that, “Biden sent the orders”.
Subsequently, this is likely to boost support for Trump as polls are already showing thin margins between Biden and Trump in key battleground states.
Biden’s poor debate performance also contributed to Trumps growth in support.
Thankfully, clips from Trump’s campaign team on X shows the former president walking down the aircraft’s steps after landing at the Newark Liberty international airport in New Jersey.
