Hon. Ike Ibe berates individuals over ‘extravagant funerals’

Public speaker, Life coach, Lawyer and former Imo state house of assembly speaker, Ike Ibe has said that there’s no essence of a “befitting burial”.

In the recent episode of Balancing pains and gains in the pursuit of happiness on Wednesday 14, August 2024, he emphasized that regardless of how much is spent, the dead will still be buried.

While reminiscing on his experiences when he lost loved ones, he insisted that the attention accorded to the dead is better off given to the living.

According to him, the motive of a befitting burial is just to “show off”, insisting that death and funerals shouldn’t be celebrated more than life itself.

“A person who is dead is already gone and can’t know how much was spent on the funeral. What would matter is if you gave such person a good life before death.

“It’s crazy what people do these days in the name of funeral. People now carry extra ambulance to show off even though it is one casket that is carried.” He noted.

He added that the course he studied in the United Kingdom titled, ‘Death, Dying and Grief’ explained the series of thoughts that people go through in their dying state.

Ibe then urged individuals to spend more time and resources giving loved ones a befitting life and extending empathy to them when alive.
