Nigerian Media Consultant and Public Affairs Analyst, Chinedum Anayo, speaking on the Ways breakfast program today on Upgrade TV, emphasized the lack of attention paid to mental health in Nigerian society.
The program, titled ‘Managing Anxiety for Professionals’, focused on the growing mental health challenges faced by professionals in various sectors.
Anayo highlighted the pressing need for mental health services to be integrated into both public and private institutions.
He pointed out that while physical health is often prioritized, mental health remains overlooked, despite its critical importance.
“Many people are silently suffering from anxiety and other mental health issues, especially professionals who are juggling the pressures of work, family, and society.
“There needs to be more awareness and support structures in place,” Anayo said.
He further advocated for mental health initiatives to be incorporated into workplace policies, ensuring employees have access to counseling services and mental health resources.
According to Anayo, this will not only improve individual well-being but also enhance productivity and overall societal health.
The discussion underscored the broader mental health crisis in Nigeria and the need for proactive measures to address these challenges, as the stigma surrounding mental health continues to prevent many from seeking the help they need.
