Kingsley Moghalu, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has expressed his view that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s potential political comeback is unlikely to have significant consequences for Africa.
Moghalu in a statement today, emphasized that Trump has historically shown limited interest in African affairs and suggested that African nations should take charge of their own futures.
“Those wondering what Donald Trump’s remarkable political comeback means for Africa, the answer is: Not much!” Moghalu declared.
He added that Africans should prioritize solving their own challenges, with a focus on leadership, governance, security, and democracy.
According to Moghalu, Africa’s path forward lies not in looking toward external influences or “props” from Western nations, but in addressing internal issues and creating sustainable solutions.
He cited Botswana’s recent electoral success as an example, where local leadership played a central role in ensuring a fair electoral process and the incumbent’s gracious concession.
Moghalu contrasted Africa’s situation with other regions where Trump’s influence may be more pronounced, such as the Middle East, Ukraine, Europe, and China.
In these areas, he suggested, Trump’s policies and actions could have direct implications due to longstanding U.S. involvement in regional security and political affairs.
