Following the passing of Honorable Justice Emmanuel Obioma Ogwuegbu, a respected retired justice of the Supreme Court and native of Ihitte Uboma, Hon. Chike Okafor, Ph.D., representative of Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma, and Obowo, has expressed his profound sorrow, emphasizing the late justice’s integrity and lasting influence on the judiciary.
In a condolence statement, Hon. Okafor celebrated Justice Ogwuegbu’s legacy, describing him as a symbol of wisdom, humility, and unyielding dedication to justice.
“Justice Ogwuegbu was a pillar of integrity in Nigeria’s judiciary.
“His rulings reflected not only his legal acumen but his deep sense of fairness and compassion.” Okafor stated.
Hon. Okafor also acknowledged the justice’s impact on future generations, noting his role as a mentor to young lawyers and judges, inspiring them to uphold the highest ethical standards.
“Justice Ogwuegbu encouraged those around him to seek the truth and uphold justice with integrity,” Okafor said.
Justice Ogwuegbu, who served with distinction on the Supreme Court from 1992 until his retirement in 2003, was known for landmark judgments that left a lasting mark on Nigerian jurisprudence.
Hon. Okafor extended his deepest condolences to the late justice’s family and the people of Ihitte Uboma, encouraging them to find comfort in his remarkable legacy.
