The Central Bank Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso has presented a forward-looking economic strategy for 2025.
At the 59th Annual Bankers Dinner hosted by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) on Friday, 29 November, 2024, he emphasized the diversification, innovation, and collaboration, measures to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s economy.

In his keynote address, Cardoso praised the resilience of the banking sector and announced the launch of mentorship and capacity-building initiatives to empower young Nigerians with skills for innovation.
He challenged banks to strengthen their intermediation roles and deliver customized financial solutions that support businesses in managing risks and scaling operations.
The Governor also commended Nigeria’s fintech sector for its achievements in financial inclusion and attracting global investors, with several startups attaining unicorn status this year.
He unveiled plans to enhance financial systems through initiatives such as open banking frameworks, contactless payment systems, and expanded regulatory sandbox programs.
Additionally, Cardoso directed customers experiencing challenges with cash withdrawals to report such incidents to the CBN, effective December 1, 2024.
