APC Dismisses Threatening Peter Obi, Accuses Him of Spreading Misinformation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations made by Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, claiming that its spokesperson, Felix Morka, threatened his life.

In a statement released on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described Obi’s claims as “malicious, false, and reprehensible.”

Morka accused Obi of fabricating the allegations to garner public sympathy and ignite political tensions.

The controversy began after Obi, in a post on his verified X account, alleged that threats against him and his family followed his New Year message.

Obi claimed that Morka, during a January 4 interview on Arise TV, warned that he would “face consequences” for his remarks.

However, Morka refuted these claims, asserting that his comments during the interview were misinterpreted.

He provided a transcript to clarify the context, emphasizing that his statements were directed at Obi’s political actions and criticisms, not as a physical threat.

In the interview, Morka criticized Obi’s economic policies as “irrational” and questioned his record as Governor of Anambra State.

Responding to criticisms that his remarks were excessive, Morka stated, “Obi has crossed the line so many times, and I think that, at this point, he has coming to him whatever he gets. He should manage it.”

Morka clarified that his comments referred solely to Obi’s political conduct, stressing, “Nothing in that statement constitutes or suggests a threat to Obi or anyone else.”

The APC spokesperson accused Obi of spreading misinformation and inciting hostility against opposing views.

He alleged that Obi’s supporters frequently harass and issue threats to political opponents, including elder statesmen.

Morka further criticized Obi’s policy positions, accusing him of hypocrisy for condemning the Tinubu administration’s reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and unification of exchange rates—that he had previously supported.

“Obi must stop misleading Nigerians with false narratives and start offering constructive criticism based on facts,” Morka stated.

The APC has demanded that Obi retract his allegations and issue a public apology.

Morka also warned that he might pursue legal action to defend his reputation if the claims are not withdrawn.
