A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the Federal Government an order of interim forfeiture of property linked to the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
The property is valued at N11,140,000,000.00, with the counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) informing the court that with the proceeds of fraud, Emefiele was suspected of have bought the choice property, mostly located in highbrow parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, by proxy.
According to him, the anti-graft commission identified a former CBN staff alongside to current staff as accomplices to the alleged crime.
The presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke ordered the EFCC to publish the order in the ThisDay newspaper so that any interested party could contest the final order of forfeiture.
