The Nigerian government has declared Wednesday, June 12 as a Public Holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, congratulating citizens.
“As we mark another Democracy day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity.” The statement reads.
The minister urged Nigerians and allies to appreciate the progress that has been made by the President Tinubu administration.
The Democracy Day in Nigeria is a national public holiday commemorating the country’s democratic transition on 12 June. It was a celebrated on 29 May until former President Muhammadu Buhari declared the new date as a reverence to the cancelled democratic election of Moshood Abiola.
