Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, has stated that state governors are pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision, granting fiscal autonomy to local government areas.
Governor AbdulRahman while speaking on Friday at the presidential villa, explained that the ruling has alleviated a burden from the state governors, expressing the forum’s satisfaction with the power devolution to the local governments.
“We welcome the ruling of the Supreme Court. Compliance is mandatory, and our Attorney Generals have requested the enrollment order, which we will review carefully.
“Overall, governors are content with the devolution of power concerning local government autonomy. This decision alleviates the burden on governors.
“People are often unaware of the extent to which states financially support local governments, which is a significant issue.
“The forum will convene next Wednesday to thoroughly examine the issue and come to a resolution.
“Currently, we have not yet seen the court order enrollment, so we are uncertain of its contents,” he said.
