Police Recover N8bn, Prosecute 751 Suspects in Cybercrime Crackdown

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded remarkable achievements in its fight against cybercrime, recovering over ₦8.8 billion and prosecuting 751 suspects in 2024. 

This milestone was achieved through the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), underscoring its commitment to combating cyber fraud and protecting citizens.

According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on January 7, 2025, the NPF-NCCC successfully recovered ₦8,821,001,881.80, 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 during the year under review. 

These recovered funds have been restituted to victims of cybercrime, reaffirming the Force’s dedication to justice and restitution for those affected by fraudulent activities.

The year also witnessed the arrests and prosecutions of 751 cybercrime suspects. 

In addition, the NPF-NCCC seized 685 devices used in cybercrime operations, including: 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops and computers, 46 routers, 4 servers, 1 drone, 4 Starlink devices.

The unit also confiscated 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles linked to cybercriminal activities. 

These efforts have significantly disrupted the infrastructure and resources supporting cybercrime in the country.

ACP Adejobi also emphasized that the achievements demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering resolve to address cybercrime and other forms of criminality. 

He reiterated the Force’s commitment to leveraging technology and strategic operations to safeguard citizens and their assets.

This breakthrough is part of the Force’s commitment and broader efforts to enhance cybersecurity, strengthen investigative capabilities, and ensure accountability for criminal activities.
