Former President of China FA sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption

Former President of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), Chen Xuyuan, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption.

A court in the central Chinese province of Hubei, on Tuesday, stated that Chen used his 2010 to 2023 posts to influence projects awarded.

The court also revealed that Chen received bribes worth more than 81 million yuan ($11.42 million).

Investigations commenced in February 2023, leading to him being charged in September.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is a passionate football fan and intends to boost his country to a major player in the sport.

Meanwhile, the men’s team has only qualified once for the World Cup, with corruption allegations frequenting the football scene in the country.
